Col. Wade
Sokolosky, USA (Ret.), one of North Carolina's leading experts on the
1865 Carolinas Campaign, led the Fort Sumter Civil War Round
Table's spring field trip to Kinston, N.C., from Feb. 28 to March 1,
2025. The excellent field trip, hosted by the Lenoir County Tourism Office
of Kinston, was one of the best field trips that the Fort Sumter CWRT
has ever taken.
Sixteen members of the
Round Table gathered Friday evening, Feb. 28, for a reception
at the Kinston-Lenoir County Visitor Center in Kinston.
On Saturday,
March 1, they traveled by bus to tour battlefields in Averasboro,
Bentonville and Wyse Fork. They also attended a pig roast at the CSS
Ram Neuse in Kinston for lunch before touring the museum. Later in
the evening, they attended a banquet dinner at Chophouse 222.
On Sunday, Round Table
members boarded a bus to tour the Averasboro battlefield. They enjoyed a
wonderful lunch at Oak Grove Plantation, and toured the historic site
which served as a field hospital during and after the battle.
On Monday, an optional
trip, some members of the Fort Sumter CWRT visited New Bern Battlefield
Park and toured the battlefield there.
